“Your blog sounds interesting. What’s it called?”
“Well… it’s called ‘Terrorist Fist Jab’.”
“‘Terrorist Fist Jab’?! The first word in your blog’s name is ‘Terrorist’?!”
“No mom, you don’t get it…”
I had this exchange with my mom earlier tonight, and realized that a lot of people may not get the joke that is my blog’s name. So let me do a better job of explaining.
Just after clinching the Democratic nomination, and just before delivering his impressive speech, Barack Obama and his wife shared a “fist bump”, immortalizing their love and baffling white America.
The next day, despite the historic milestone that had just been achieved and the ending of one of the most riveting nomination contests in American history, a disproportionate amount of media attention went to the dap. Most found it endearing and romantic. Some found it puzzling. And one intrepid Fox Reporter asked if it was, in fact, a “terrorist fist jab”.
Once I got over the shock of hearing a news reporter suggest something like this, I actually thought it sounded pretty cool. Just imagine, right before mass murderers go out to do their deed, they emulate American frat boys and do their “terrorist fist jab”. And Barack sharing the jab with Michelle was obviously a coded message to the big Muslim chief saying “we’re almost there”.
It is in that spirit that I created this blog.

Hi there, Jacob (uh, Jake),
I understand better now what your blog is about. It might be an effective way to get some people “on the fence” to really think, instead of just reacting.
Yeah, that’s definitely a goal of mine. I think what you said is a little more honorable than what I’m really trying to do (I’m just trying to get MYSELF to think, and hoping other people will be interested), but that would definitely be a welcome effect.
